Aldi among top-10 global retailers 

German discounter Aldi sits in 8th position of the world’s leading retail powers, according to a new list prepared by Deloitte. Tesco is ranked 15th and Mercadona 37th in the Global Powers of Retailing 2022 – a list which also features the likes of Walmart, Amazon Costco Wholesale, and the Schwarz Group.

Several Spanish retailers are on the list. Mercadona enjoyed sales growth of 5.6% in 2021 and a profit margin of 2.9%. El Corte Inglés, which saw turnover fall by 27%, slips 28 positions to 97th. The Dia chain dropped one position to 138 and Eroski climbed 8 places to 204.

UK retailer Tesco drops 5 positions to 15th place, after seeing turnover contract by 10.3%.
