As the global market for organic products registers its greatest growth in recent years, reaching €120 billion, France surpassed Spain as Europe’s leading organic producer, according to IFOAM and FIBL data for 2020. These figures have prompted the Spanish professional association of organic production to call for more aid to reach Europe’s goal of 25% organic farming by 2030.
In the European ranking, France has 2,548,677 hectares of organics, followed by Spain (2,437,891 hectares) and Italy (2,095,380 hectares).
In 2020, the value of the global organic market rose by 13% Y-o-Y, while acreage expanded by 3.5%, to reach 74.9 million hectares.
